Western Spirit: Scottsdale's Museum of the West

Please join the Penn and Wharton Club of Arizona for a guided visit to the Western Spirit: Scottsdale's Museum of the West on Saturday, May 3, 2025 at 11:15 am.  This is an engaging collection set in a vibrant building.

The Western Spirit Museum is a 10-year-old museum, owned by the city of Scottsdale and housed in a contemporary building with both indoor and outdoor galleries [1].  The museum features western and Native American art from the early American West along with artifacts from the Lewis and Clark expedition (1804-06), an outdoor sculpture garden, and many bronzes.  Current exhibitions [2] include Women of the Southwest: A Legacy of Painting.

Tour: The museum will provide an informative 90-minute docent-led tour starting at 11:30 am.  Discounted tickets for admission and private tour are remarkably inexpensive at $23/person (a $5 savings, and includes a docent led tour!) 

Location: The museum is in Old Town Scottsdale one block south of Main St., which is home to many art galleries, restaurants and shopping.  Old Town Scottsdale has an abundance of free parking facilities including a lot adjacent to this museum - #14 on the map below [3]. We will all meet at the main entrance at 11:15, and the docent tour will begin promptly at 11:30 am.

Lunch and beyond:  You are invited to attend the Saturday visit & tour, followed by more museum exploration, or lunch or shopping nearby at your leisure. There are many restaurants in Old Town Scottsdale.  The museum recommends the Arcadia Farms Café which is 2 blocks away at 7025 E 1st Ave.  (8 am – 2 pm & 5 -8 pm on Saturdays) [4].  Another nice place is AZ88 (11 am – midnight) 4 blocks away in the recently renovated Scottsdale Civic Center Park [5].
