Please join us for a guided 90-min "VIP Behind the Scenes" tour of the Musical Instrument Museum on Sunday, April 23, 2023 at 11:00am.

MIM:  Phoenix’s #1 attraction invites you to experience the world through music.  Opening is 2010, the MIM has been characterized as the “the Most Extraordinary Museum You’ll Ever HEAR!”   MIM is the world’s only global musical instrument museum, with exhibits featuring musical heritage, cultures, and instruments from more than two hundred countries. Watch videos and listen to music by iconic performers in different genres, including country, jazz, pop, classical, and more.

Tour:  Our VIP Behind the Scenes tour takes us into spaces and places not accessible to the public. This will be followed by a guided tour with highlights of the galleries offering an overview of the world’s music and an introduction to Rediscover Treasures: Legendary Musical Instruments (see below).  This 90-min tour begins at 11:15.

Lunch:  Following our tour feel free to visit MIM’s Café Allegro (first floor, near entrance) which features a rotating menu of delicious global cuisine.  Choose from a variety of fresh entrées, salads, soups, and grill items showcasing local produce and flavors from around the world.  Indoor and (very pleasant!) outdoor seating is available.

Explore the galleries:  Our admission allows us to visit MIM’s amazing galleries until 5 PM.  Interesting examples include the Mechanical Music Gallery and the Martin Guitar Construction exhibit.

Special events:  There are also two special events taking place when we visit:

  1. Experience the Music of the Middle East: There are lectures and performances as part of this Signature Event throughout the day. Here’s a list: https://mim.org/events/experience-music-of-the-middle-east/2023-04-22/
  2. Rediscover Treasures: Legendary Musical Instruments Exhibition: celebrates some of the world’s most notable instruments including the world’s first ukulele, a 14th-century flute owned by one of Japan’s emperors, a 1559 Amati violin, Prince’s “Beautiful” grand piano, Eric Clapton’s Fender Stratocaster, 1958 Gibson Flying V electric guitar, Lionel Hampton’s vibraphone, c. 1935 and more. https://mim.org/special-exhibitions/rediscover-treasures/  There is an extra charge ($10) for this gallery, if you are interested in this Exhibition, you can purchase access to this additional exhibit at the ticket counter.
