Dr. G. Michael Lemole, Jr.

Dr. Michael LemoleDr. G. Michael Lemole, Jr., MD, is a professor of surgery and the chief of the Division of Neurosurgery at the University of Arizona Department of Surgery and Banner University Medical Center - Tucson. Dr. Lemole has expertise in all aspects of skull base disease, including minimally-invasive endoscopic techniques, classical approaches, and radiosurgical treatments.  He serves as co-director of the UA Center for Sinonasal and Skull Base Tumors. He also recently completed his term as chief of staff at the University of Arizona Medical Center Hospital (Main Campus).

Dr. Lemole’s clinical interests include diseases of the cranial base. His focus is on creating multidisciplinary teams of surgeons and specialists who collaborate to offer the full range of cutting-edge surgical, radiosurgical, and medical treatments for patients with brain and spine disorders. Dr. Lemole received his undergraduate degree from Harvard University and his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania. He completed his residency in neurological surgery at Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix in 2002. At Barrow, he completed fellowships in complex spinal surgery and cerebrovascular/skull base surgery. He pursued international training in Austria after being awarded the Congress of Neurological Surgeons Cushing Clinical Fellowship. During his neurosurgery training, Dr. Lemole joined the United States Air Force Reserve at Luke Air Force Base just outside of Phoenix. There he served as a flight surgeon with the 944th ASTS. He was also privileged to serve as the honorary commander for the 355th Medical Group, Davis Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson.

Dr. Lemole has generated more than 75 publications and book chapters. He is a member of several medical societies, including the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, and the North American Skull Base Society. He is frequently invited as a guest lecturer and teaches at specialty and society courses.
