Harvard Issues Forum on April 22nd

Penn & Wharton Club members have been invited to participate in the final Harvard Issues Forum event . . .



 

"Re-Imagining the American Symphony"

 

 

Who: 

Maryellen Gleason, CEO of the Phoenix Symphony & Michael Christie, Virginia G. Piper Music Director

What: 

Maryellen Gleason and Michael Christie will give a presentation entitled "Re-Imagining the American Symphony from an Artistic and Business Perspective."  They will discuss the vision and institutional plan of the Phoenix Symphony with emphasis on the challenges of managing the business during the current economic downturn.  The Symphony's programming and its five-year artistic plan will also be discussed.  Attendees are welcome to stay and observe the rehearsal of "Carmina Burana" at 7:00 pm for no extra charge.

Maryellen Gleason is the CEO of The Phoenix Symphony. Prior to joining the Symphony, Ms. Gleason worked for Qwest for 10 years. Ms. Gleason graduated cum laude with a B.A. in liberal arts from Harvard University, while working for Harvard Student Agencies and playing the viola in the Harvard-Radcliffe Orchestra. She graduated from the Northwestern University Kellogg Graduate School of Management Executive Masters Degree Program in 2001.

Michael Christie is the Virginia G. Piper Music Director of The Phoenix Symphony, and 2009 the Music Director of the
annual Colorado Music Festival. Since September 2005, he also has served as Music Director of the Brooklyn Philharmonic, bringing his artistry and innovative programming to New York City and beyond. He graduated from the Oberlin College Conservatory of Music with a B.A. degree in trumpet performance.
